Classified Diving

SSI's Classified Diving program provides tailored training for students with limited mobility and/or sensory impairments, allowing them to dive with one or more Classified Dive Buddies or a Classified Dive Professional.
Through this program, individuals with disabilities or limited mobility who have been medically approved can experience the thrill of scuba diving, first in a pool/confined water environment, and then, potentially, in open water.
The student-centered SSI Classified Diving program is specifically designed for individuals who cannot meet some of the scuba diving proficiency requirements for an SSI Open Water Diver certification.
SSI Classified Diving instructors know how to adapt the SSI Open Water Diver program and training materials to meet the specific needs of their students. All Classified Diving students continue to complete all Open Water Diver proficiency assessments. However, depending on their abilities, they may change specific techniques, and assistance with skill development is permitted.
The Classified Dive Buddy certification enables an SSI Stress & Rescue diver or higher to dive with a certified Level 1, 2, and 3 Classified Diver.
The SSI Classified Diving program is more than just teaching scuba diving techniques. This program creates a network of Classified Divers, Buddies, and professionals so that everyone can safely experience the excitement of scuba diving.
